An exceptional year
2024 has been an exceptional year for Metro Bilbao. We have experienced growth of 8.6% over the previous year and have exceeded one hundred million journeys, a new milestone in our history that reflects our ability to adapt to the mobility needs of the public and our relevance in both work and leisure.
Bizkaia has been the scene of important cultural and sporting events throughout the year, events that have highlighted the role of the metro as an essential service in the territory. Perhaps the best example of this was the day when the Gabarra crossed our estuary, with more than a million people on the streets celebrating Athletic's victory, and the excellent service provided by the company.
With our sights set on the renewal of the train fleet, the evolution of the signalling system and the modernisation of the Central Command Post in the coming years, these figures not only demonstrate the trust that users place in Metro Bilbao, but also reinforce our commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement in order to continue to be a fundamental axis of mobility in Bizkaia.
